Management is essentially the skill of working with "the known" within defined and existing parameters and constraints, and focuses on achieving controlled and quantifiable task objectives. Leadership focuses primarily on what is "not known", the future and on what changes may be required. It is often about emotions rather than facts; it is about people and relationships rather than tasks. Whereas management aspires to be a science, leadership will always remain an art. What is required of those in senior roles in organizations is usually far more about leadership than management.
